Underserved Communities

Each new year brings with it the opportunity for change, innovation and, most importantly, progress. In 2008, I support an ambitious agenda for Ohio, especially the citizens of Cleveland’s 10th House District, that seeks to promote progress both socially and economically. An essential component of our social well-being continues to be education. I plan on supporting Cleveland’s public school systems by ensuring the safety and attendance of students through proposed “Nuisance Properties” legislation, which would eliminate or rehabilitate abandoned buildings near schools.

Additionally, in an effort to encourage students of all socioeconomic backgrounds to pursue post-secondary education, I want to encourage high school seniors to pursue financial aid options such as the Federal Application for Student Aid, or FAFSA, which provides federal assistance to prospective students. I am also working in the legislature on plans to boost Ohio’s economy to improve the lives of it’s citizens, especially in Cleveland.

You are invited to some upcoming meetings in your neighborhood meant to help inform you on what's happening in state government. On Tuesday, February 5th, Marquez Brown of the Ohio Attorney General's Office will speak at the Lutheran Hospital Auditorium (1730 W. 25th Street, Cleveland) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Then on Monday, February 18th, the guest speaker will be Meredith Turner of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown's office. That meeting will be at Zion United Church of Christ, 2716 W. 14th Street, Cleveland, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

I would also like to invite you to a special Town Hall Meeting with me on Thursday, February 28th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Five Points Community Center, 813 E. 152nd Street, Cleveland. And if you'd like to mix some fun with an informative evening, join me for Grab the Mic: Karaoke and Poetry night on Wednesday February 27th from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. at the Five Points Community Center. I hope to see you at one or all of this events!

I am constantly in touch with constituents and neighbors across the district, using their opinions and experiences to help shape my policymaking. Feel free to contact the office with any questions or comments.

I am humbled to serve you, and look forward to enacting legislation that will improve the lives of all Ohioans.
